The details of businesses listed on Aged Care Reviews have come from publicly available information from the Australian Department of Health and other statutory agencies. We also rely on our community, aged care operators and third party information providers to keep our database current and relevant.

No. Aged Care Reviews utilises publicly available information to compile our directory of aged care industry businesses. We believe in the power of transparency to encourage aged care operators who promote quality, and in the power of transparency to highlight areas for improvement. It is only through providing a complete directory for our site members and users that we can hope to support positive change in the aged care industry.

Any person can flag a review for investigation. You can do this by going to the business in question, clicking on Enquiry, then selecting “Suspicious Review” in the ‘Nature of your Enquiry’ tab. We investigate every referral. Please ensure you provide sufficient details that support your belief in order to assist our investigation.

Reviews are submitted by registered members of Aged Care Reviews. Our Content Guidelines require that only persons who have had first hand expeirence with your business in the last 12 months (or immediate relatives of those people) may submit a review.

In some circumstances a review may be submitted anonymously, in which case the review is manually verified to ensure complaince with our Content Guidelines before the review goes public.

No. All reviews are listed in date order, with the latest review displayed highest on the list.

No. All ratings are a result of the reviews that have been submitted for that business. Reviews are not altered or removed other than where they infringe our Content Guidelines.

A site member may submit one of three types of reviews.

The first type is where a site member has toured an aged care facility. In this instance we request they rate the quality of information provided to them, the helpfulness of the staff, the quality of the general built environment and ambiance, and its overall quality. This type of reviews is only available for residential aged care facilities. Only one of these reviews may be submitted for each aged care facility inspected.

The second type of review is submitted where a site member, or their immediate family member, has been a residential aged care facility resident. In this instance we request they rate the quality of the building, staff and care, food, quality of lifestyle and wellbeing and overall quality.

The third type of review is submitted where a site member, or an immediate family member, has been the recipient of services from an in-home care provider. In this instance we request they rate the quality of staff, of service provision, the responsiveness of the service provider, and overall quality.

The overall score for a business is calculated as the average of all ‘Overall Quality’ ratings that business has received. All ratings receive equal weighting.

We encourage aged care industry businesses to ask their residents, their service recipients and their immediate families to submit a review on Aged Care Reviews. In so doing all reviews must adhere to our Content Guidelines.

Search results are generally listed in either alphabetical order, or in order of their proximity to the person who has submitted the search. In some instances we provide an opportunity for businesses with a Premium Listing to feature that listing for a short time in the local neighbourhood of that area. Featured listings are clearly distinguishable from other listings. In order to upgrade your listing please contact us using the Contact Us page enquiry form.

Aged Care Reviews works offline and online to gather reviews from individuals who have had an aged care experience. On the internet we undertake advertising, media marketing and publicity campaigns to generate awareness, and encourage people to submit a review. We also work offline in partnership with various organisations - including aged care businesses, service providers and hospital social work teams to generate awareness. Aged Care Reviews also runs a number of competitions, prizes and incentives to encourage people to submit a review. Some reviewers of receive a voucher, prize draw entry or other benefit in exchange for their review. All reviews are screened by our Suspicious Content Detection Algorithm.

No. While we encourage aged care industry businesses to utilise the opportunity our website provides to increase their profile, we never compromise the integrity of our reviews for businesses.

Aged Care Reviews takes the integrity of our reviews seriously. Our Content Integrity Policy states that we will “take all reasonable and practical measures to ensure the integrity of our user generated content”. We do that through three main methods. The first is by ensuring that only registered members of Aged Care Reviews can submit reviews. The second is through our unique, custom developed Suspicious Content Detection Algorithm (SCDA). While we can’t go into details about how the SCDA works, it does constantly operate in the background of our site to detect and eliminate suspicious reviews. The third method to guard against suspicious reviews is by using our community. Any person can flag any review for investigation.
