How aged care is worth $24bn a year....

Note 1: 2015-16 Revenue to aged care providers

Full breakdown of amounts paid to residential aged care operators can be found in the Department of Health's 2016 Report on the Funding & Financing of Aged Care (see page 94)

Note 2: Amount paid by Australian families in accommodation bonds

The estimate of $8bn paid by Australian families in the form of aged care accommodation bonds (RADs) in 2015-16 has been calculated by escalating the amount paid in 2013-14 of $5,436.2 million (as reported by the Department of Health [page 97, note 4 of the 2015 Report on the Funding & Financing of Aged Care]) by the annual increases in the total pool of RADs held in 2014-15 and 2015-16 (again, as reported by the Department of Health in the subsequent Reports on the Funding & Financing of Aged Care). This calculation is likely to be a conservative estimate. No publicly available figure has been published for the 2015-16 amount paid in accommodation bonds.
