Facility: Clovelly Cottage

Clovelly Cottage is a good facility, clean and friendly. The staff are amazing and have shown great care towards my Mum. Food is very average and activities for the able body very limited, no outings which is not good for residents that don't have family to take them out.

My father was moved into an aged care dementia ward from palliative care with stage 4 cancer - on the promise that he would have amazing palliative support in the next few months. He was treated like a nursing home patient instead of palliative - as he didn't recognise pain, they thought he was just angry and confused and his pain management went down from what the palliative had set up. He would wake up around 4am and wet the floor next to him as he was in pain and disorientated, they thought he was being uncompliant even though we kept telling them this was a sign of his pain. He passed away within 4mths with us begging them to give him stronger medication, treat his bloodclot filled legs and have palliative support. There was never enough staff and one ER Nurse admitted that she was unqualified to look after the 70 patients in the unit and was lucky to have 2PCs support during her shifts. The day before he died, we finally got a palliative worker in, who was shocked! On the night he died, his leg blew up and we asked repeatedly for PCs to get a frame to take the weight off his leg, they ignored us - I begged and demanded morphine to ease his pain.. they finally got a doctor who said in front of us "Is he already dead!" after we had been looking after him 24/7 for the last 7 days of him being unresponsive (I had food being brought in on day 4, they thought he was sleeping, I said he is dying!) - Finally the doctor gave him another dose of morphine (after his death, the nurses and carers admitted they thought we were overzealous family and most didn't believe he needed the painkillers) and he passed away 5hrs later... they said the doctor would have to come and sign the death certificate - we waited for an hour and left to find out later, the nurse ended up signing it because the doctor wouldn't come back!

Facility: Clovelly Cottage

This facility has been transformed by a recent renovation - great, modern facilities and lovely gardens for residents.

Facility: Clovelly Cottage

The staff were not educated on residents medical issues. Staff took lazy short cuts resulting in substandard care and further health problems, staff did not follow lifting protocols. Food was not nutritious, bland and often cold.

My mother was in this facility for nearly 3 until she passed away in 2013, so my review is not current to whats happening now, but I would not recommend sending any persons to this facility, patients not separated as per ailments/illness etc. 60/40 staff care factor 40 being good, food was shocking, lifestyle .... mum got left to herself too hard basket I think, like I said as in 2013 I wouldn't recommend this facility to anyone, more emphasis on profits rather than patients!

This facility is clean and well run, the staff are caring. What a shame the staff are under such pressure that very little time is allocated to each individual patient. Food could have been better but generally is recommended.

Unfortunately I am not a fan of the Residential Care system as I believe that they are generally under staffed to the point that they are unable to give the residents the quality of care that they require. My mother spent two years in what I was told was one of the better places which I would hate to have seen how bad some other places were.
