My Dad was in aged care for a few years. We looked at many nursing homes which we thought were not up to standard. We finally found a aged care facility in Gosnells (W.A.) the facility itself was like a hotel, the building was bright and modern, the staff were all lovely and nothing was too much trouble for them. Plenty of activities were available, entertainment on a weekly basis, and outside trips and lunches were organized. My father has now passed away, but my family and I still hold very fond memories of Amaroo Nursing home.

My mother in law has been at Amaroo McMahon for 12 months and we are glad we chose it to be her final home. Although not new building is always well kept and clean and has a homely welcoming ambience to it. Staff are always caring and very friendly, treating residents with great respect. They do however have a heavy workload and more staff would I am sure be of great benefit. Food always seems fresh and well prepared and presented and Mum always seems to enjoy it. Considering her physical and of late mental impairments I feel Mum has a good lifestyle , with therapy and activities provided regularly. A great band of volunteers greatly assists what is able to be provided. Management are always happy to assist us with any queries we may have and any issues brought to their attention have been dealt with professionally.

It sad to see the standards of care heading in a Third World direction where residents are not being cared for in a manner that is home like and to which they are accustomed. For a Facility to say they allow choices for residents is a farce when those other than English who like traditional foods are left to eat plain British foods that have no salt in it to the point of bland and digusting. Tobe given drinks eg tea, coffee milo made with below standard cheap beverages due to cost cutting meassures. Where residents that are not able bodied are left with their backs to the staff facing a TV where if one passed away nobody would be the wiser as staff rush past them while their backs or backs of wheelchairs can only be seen. To see staff feed residents shovelling food into the mouths of residents without even as much as a word said; to have pads rationed to only 4 a day and having to sit in wet/soiled pads for hours on end. To be left in bed for up to 18 hours each day staring at the wall or ceiling until time for a wash or shower then dresssed and taken to sitting area. This is only a very small smount of issues experienced over the past eight years of visiting my partner. There is so much more i could say short of saying Prisoners get better treatment than the frail, sick and elderly in a Care Facility. It is time for a huge shake up now that we are expected to pay upfront a huge bond to enter one of these places. Even Nursing Care standards need to be a lot better.
