My mum has dementia. I work in the public sector and she is in the private sector. There are many differences but I will for sure recommend her facility to everyone.

Excellent care of my mother when she needed respite due to many health problems when she needed care that I couldn't provide at home. She wasn't able to weight bare due to a broken leg. I couldn't fault the care she received and they also assisted with the special diet she needed.

The staff were excellent, but over-worked. Always understaffed - particularly on weekends, where they used mainly agency staff to reduce penalty rates. Many agency staff were very inexperienced with poor English skills. A few on site would be fine, but to have the majority on weekends was not a secure feeling. There were potential mix-ups with medications - when staff tried to give mum the incorrect medications (for the patient in the next room)....

Having worked in quite a few aged care homes in Melbourne and Geelong I must say the quality of care today is so much better than years ago! There is more concern with the everyday care rather than just tying to chairs and walking away! It used to be very frustrating working in those places but today I can see a real progress and not just a home!
