I have a friend residing at Bambra House, and have been visiting her for nearly a year now. First time I visited I was delighted to find the home was just like I imagined a nursing home should be. What impressed me so much was how “homely” it was. Although I had received excellent comments from others about Bambra, I wanted to see for myself, and indeed was delighted that my friend was being cared for with so much respect, compassion and sensitivity. The building is an old mansion with modest furnishings, but very homely and with friendly and caring staff. Even though it is fully secure, residents who are mobile can move about freely all over the property and interact with the other residents and the staff. And there are no long narrow corridors or locked doors as in most institutional-like nursing homes I have visited. Presentation and grooming is very important to my friend, culturally, and she has been so particular about it all her life. Any time of the day I visit, she is always beautifully presented - thanks to the wonderful staff taking care of her. Many of the residents and staff at Bambra come from varied ethnic backgrounds, as I do myself, and we are very fussy about our food. I’ve heard that at some places, the food is poorly presented, tasteless and insufficient. Believe me – at Bambra, it’s really delicious, tasty and substantial!

I entrusted this facility for a couple of years to care for my dearly beloved who should not have suffered and died due to the lack of inattentive care and monitoring . Too many broken bones and infections. Too many incidents unexplained.

I was looking for a good home for my father for some time as I needed to make sure he would be looked after and and well cared for. After approximately 5 years My father passed away may this year 2017. I am writing this review because its important that others know how good Bambra House Nursing home really is. Its a much smaller home than some others, the benefit I found was my father got much better attention here than in some of the bigger ones. The staff were very attentive to my fathers needs, both medically and through activities and giving him his dignity even in the closing stages of his life. Every one there is freindly and happy to help, even the management staff. If ever there was a problem the staff and management were quick to resolve any issues. I can't say enough as to how good Bambra house Nursing home is. Its a real credit to the whole team. Its great to know some people do care.

Happy Family Feb 15, 2017

Ever since my Mother moved to Bambra House she has been happier, and much more contented and at peace with herself. Her appetite has increased and she is really a pleasure to visit. I feel that the staff and the environment at Bambra help her to feel safe and cared for. I believe she now has the chance to live a longer and happier life.

Told how homely it was, no one there was same condition as mum who did not have dementia like every other single resident had. Mum cried every day until she died with the lack of care. When I picked her up for weekends at home, she was always covered in faeces and crying because of the way they spoke to her. She was terrified of the other residents and did not have another single resident to even hold a conversation with. Staff did not care as 99% could not speak English.

Common Areas Description

Bambra House is an historic heritage-listed Edwardian building within an established traditional garden close to public transport buses trams and trains shops and Caulfield Park.

We have deliberately not created a large and expensive hotel-style facility but have retained our original Edwardian building so that we are affordable and can provide an environment that is like a real home for our residents.

The building is a secure home allowing residents with dementia to move freely through the home gardens and our large undercover patio areas.

Our philosophy is to provide a safe secure and comfortable homelike environment where residents are provided the highest quality care and service to maintain their quality of life. Our residents are treated with dignity having their privacy of person and belongings respected and their individual needs considered at all times while maintaining their confidentiality.

We offer both single and shared rooms and many of our residents welcome the additional companionship of a shared room. From time to time there may be a couple companion room available.

All residents have access to our day room and large protected patio areas and gardens.

There is a private visitors room for use by residents and their visitors and there are an on-site kitchen and laundry facilities.

Visitors and pets are most welcome at any time. Volunteer visitors from the Community Visitors Scheme can be arranged for residents who may not otherwise receive many visitors. The Community Visitors Scheme can also arrange visitors to match residents from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
