Nestled in the quiet, leafy streets of Kew, Baptcare Karana Community provides a warm welcome and attentive support. We are located only minutes from Kew’s cafés, shops, local services and transport.Our qualified and experienced staff provide quality nursing-led care 24 hours a day, seven days a week for 93 residents. This care supports ageing in place – where changing care needs are catered for. These needs range from lower level care through to more complex, high level care requirements.To help you or your loved one maintain your interests and enjoy time with others we provide a rich and varied lifestyle and activities program. Our program was nationally recognised with a ‘Better Practice Award’ from the government aged care quality agency in 2012.Residents also enjoy companionship and support offered through our pastoral care program and strong volunteer network.

Wattle Rooms are spacious, very comfortable and in very good condition. They have high quality fixtures, fittings and furniture. Rooms include lockable storage. The Karana building is well designed and the building is in very good general condition.

The common areas in Karana are of good quality and condition, and have a homely ambiance. There are approx. 540 m 2 of common areas in total accessible to Karana residents. Common areas include: lounge, sitting and dining rooms; gymnasium, craft room; and multipurpose room/chapel. Each wing has a kitchenette, dining room and sitting room for resident use.

Room Description
All rooms at Baptcare Karana Community have the following features as standard: • Ensuite bathroom with handrails and anti-slip flooring, • Electronic, adjustable bed with pressure relieving mattress, • TV and telephone points, • Nurse call bell and points, • Quality bedroom furniture including lockable side table, built-in robe and resident armchair. All residential suites have had a recent (completed 2016) refurbishment that has included new LED lighting, window film and new curtains. New carpet and repainting has further elevated the decor. In addition to the features described above, the Premium (Huon) rooms have preferred positions within the facility, offering premium views and access to amenities within the facility. The position of these rooms delivers premium natural light, and attractive outlooks with visual stimulus. They more closely reflect at-home settings and accommodation in the surrounding suburb. 1. Ground floor courtyard facing (rooms 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19; 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42) • Landscaped internal courtyard outlook; • Easy access to courtyards’ outdoor spaces; • Easy access to recreation area, dining room, and chapel areas. 2. Ground floor facing Brougham Street, (rooms 22, 23, 24,25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30,31) • Ground floor community street-scape views for visual stimulus; • Easy access to recreation area, dining room, and chapel areas. 3. The heart of Karana is the stunning dining area: residents enjoy elegantly the finished spaces that features quality furnishings, as well as attractive art and decorative elements. Other common areas across Karana are spacious and presented to a high standard. There are 540.14 square metres of common areas, or approximately 5.8 square metres per resident. They include a dining and recreation room (240.3 sqm); multipurpose room/Chapel (95 sqm); and, four resident sitting rooms located in each of the four wings of the facility. (204.8 sqm). In addition, all residents have access to four landscaped internal courtyards. These separate courtyards have attractive plantings and comfortable seating and give residents the choice of quieter outdoor areas, or more social and active areas, depending on their preference. Karana was constructed in 2002 and its maintenance program sustains a consistent and high quality of presentation and safety. A series of improvements that were completed in 2016 resulted in a successful application for a Higher Accommodation Supplement for a Significantly Refurbished Service (September 2016). Elements of this significant refurbishment in the common areas include - a new exterior facade and refurbished entrance/lobby area that has significantly elevated the look and experience the facility for residents and their guests. - former office and storage space has been renovated to create a new café bar, function room and library area, and extended sun lounge have added new attractive new common areas for residents to enjoy and entertain their guests. - painting and new carpet tiling across the whole service, together with a new range of coordinated furniture has created a fresh, modern and welcoming appearance. - new paving, pergola, seating and landscaping have significantly improved the main courtyard in the facility.
