The general quality of the food is less than satisfactory, i.e.: - Salads consist of a few small cuts of lettuce and a third of a cherry tomato - Meat cut is third rate; it is casseroled or braised to cover its lack of quality - Ice cream seems to be served at every meal; it's not real cream ice cream - Published meals are not always delivered - A Dominos $5 pizza was served as a main evening meal - Cordial is substituted for fruit juices on many occasions - There is no coffee/tea available for residents, family members or guests. When there was, a $2 charge was imposed. All of the above have been brought to the facility's attention without any effect. How about an unannounced audit.

Facility totally understaffed. Staff not trained to deal with dementia patients. Only one care worker on for nights for 15 dementia patients... totally inadequate. Food was very bland , basic not very nutritious .note, not all staff were uncaring, there are some exceptional caring considerate staff.

No Garden in Camberwell gardens. Lifestyle activities are bingo and word search. Residents herded in to communal areas during the day. Main issue is rooms are clean. Smell. Nursing staff good.

Camberwell Gardens is an aged care facility which houses 74 clients. It is very clean and the staff are very caring and nurturing.

Residents left for over 3 hours in faeces after being told they need to be changed. Dementia residents are not encouraged enough to eat their food when it's obvious they are underweight and need extra time to eat. Manager does not understand the needs of the individuals in regards to interaction for wellbeing or how to offer it appropriately. When I mentioned this to the manager I was told by the RN in charge not to tell them and only speak to her because otherwise staff would get fired. Notes were recorded to ensure staffs butts were covered rather than true records of happenings by both PCA staff and Lifestyle staff. Supervision was not always maintained until residents consumed their medications in full allowing them to spit it out. I often found spat out medication on their clothes or in their food. I could go on ....

After inspecting a few aged care home places to find the best home for my mother in law, I thought I would check this facility because the area is close to our family home. This facility is average looking and very standard. It is very basic, from its standard size private rooms with ensuite, standard lounge room and standard dining area. It ticks all the basic necessities but thats about it. Nothing extra special about it. Even the information given to me was standard. Effort is minimal. It doesn't feel homely and when I was in there, it felt like you are in a ward building and nothing personal or comfortable about it. It's like living in a big square box. Its boring. The facility doesn't live with its name ~ Camberwell gardens. It doesn't have huge gardens at all for residents to walk around and have that serene area for them to enjoy. Maybe their programs are great but they should develop the ambiance of their facility.
