I had to admit my former Husband into care, as he had Alcohol indused Brain damage. Although he was not happy with me, he is settled. He will not join in with the activities, and they are terrific, but he is pleasant to the staff, who are very good with him. They let me know what is going on with him, and ask for my feed back. He has stays in hospital, and they show concern for him, and are very caring for him when he returns. Unfortunately, I have had to speak to the person in charge a couple of times, as his Toilet was not cleaned. He complains to me about the food, but I have not really seen the food, but he is healthy, so it must be o.k.. Over all, His place was the best I had seen, when I was looking for a place for him. The bench mark for the search was, "Would I live there myself", and the answer was Yes.

Totally unimpressed with the level of care my husband received. Terrible food and substandard medical care. Went in one day and my husband was totally unresponsive and noone did anything about it. I insisted on an ambulance being called. he subsequently passed away with sepsis which noone picked up.

Both of my parents have experienced Aged Care. My father was in a different building than my mother. They are constantly short staffed, the staff DO NOT know their patients and the residents are not treated with the respect and dignity they deserve. None of the residents are treated as individuals - my mother suffers from debilitating vertigo and cannot function until the afternoon. Because this does not fit-in with the 'routine' of the staff, my mother is showered ONLY TWICE A WEEK. I realise she is not the easiest person to deal with but surely the cost involved in the care received, allows for some deviation from the routine. I have always been quite perplexed that party pies are dished up as an evening meal, pastry can be quite difficult for the aged to digest. Generally, the meals are left 'wanting' for taste and presentation. The care is so 'lacking', I have vowed that I will never enter one of these establishments. The fees charged are astronomical. First on entering the establishment and then the continual charges taken each month. I realise that these charges are approved by the government but where does the standard match the cost.

Allawarra (within Inala) is a caring and cheerful place for our family member. She seems to feel safe and cared for and the location is close to members of the family. The gardens are very pleasant. We would have loved her to be allowed to have her little dog live with her there.
