Review Sir Donald & Lady Trescowthick Centre

Norm Miller Damentia Ward - A cave of horrors- Dark - stank- low ceilings - little natural light - It ripped my heart out when my mother was put there by Tescowthick - I threw every once of my being into getting her out - She was soon drugged to the point of oblivion and I will never ,never forget seeing her in that state-It is a cave, a dungeon and an inhumane space- I still have bad dreams about my mother being there. There is no excuse for a facility like this

Very high turnover in staff - most seem to be on contract and have no ongoing or meaningful connection to the residents they attend to. Theft of residents personal effects was astounding - and no concern or involvement in their recovery was meaningfully offered by administration. The over all feeling was one of many lost souls being housed in a large impersonal space of very busy staff members It felt like a large railway station of people coming and going. I was happy to have my mother out of the environment.

About Sir Donald & Lady Trescowthick Centre

Located in the hub of cosmopolitan Prahran, mecwacare’s Sir Donald and Lady Trescowthick Centre was built in 1998 and has accommodation for 60 residents. The facility is centrally located in one of Melbourne’s most desirable inner suburbs, within short walking distance of the Prahran market and the Greville Street, Chapel Street and Commercial Road shopping strips with their cafés and restaurants, as well as multiple tram routes and Prahran train station.Residents live in one of four houses, each with their own dining room and living room, surrounded by leafy courtyards. The four houses are linked by an internal streetscape featuring a central mall with cathedral glass ceilings, kiosk, library and hairdresser. A communal dining area, smaller living areas and peaceful outdoor courtyards offer flexible daily living. The open architecture of the communal spaces, the individual ‘house’ design of the resident rooms and the low number of rooms gives the centre a distinctive, boutique feel.
