My father had 2 weeks respite and felt very lonely. This was partly his fault as he did not really try to join in activities. It would be good to see more active encouragement in getting them out of their rooms and into things. The men's chat did not run because it was January. The day trip which he was going on was canceled due to the heat. An alternate location would have been good, even a club.

My father had 2 weeks respite. Took 5 days to get working batteries for his remote and give him a telephone. Lack of info on procedures eg laundry, accessing newspapers, who should provide continence pads. Room often appeared dirty, esp bathroom. No air con in heatwave so brought in a fan.
Needs bigger range of activities eg more sport type ones like carpet bowls which was offered once.
Would be helpful to have tv in some of the lounges so the...

The aged care home is good for residents that are mentally and physically capable of participating in the organised activities, and undertaking some amount of self care. It seems residents in their rooms who are depressed and not wanting to participate in the activities or care for themselves are given a lower level of care (from my own perspective of having a parent who is resident there).

My wife had an awesome time in the day respite at Theodora's Place in St Andrews Village, Hughes, ACT before she moved permanently to an aged care. I recommend Theodora's Place to every carer's who need a break from their caring role. The centre coordinator was helped me to complete all formalities and get into the day respite service for my wife. I must say the excellent staff at the centre was very helpful. Me and my wife had a very good experience with Theodora's Place.

St Andrews Village is a well run aged care facility. My husband developed ulcers on his leg which have received care and treatment from the moment they were discovered. On discovering one ulcer had become infected, on a weekend, a locum was called in and antibiotics prescribed. I was very satisfied with the speed in which attention was given. The high care facility is very secure with enough carers on hand to deal with situations as they arise. Overall, I am very satisfied with the facility.
St Andrews Village provides a safe, caring and enjoyable independent living and residential care environment for older members of our community. In late 2009 the modern new John Flynn House was opened bringing our total number of residential rooms to 176.St Andrews Village offers a range of residential options including: independent townhouse living, low care hostel suites, dementia specific facilities, and short term respite care.
