My 96 year old mother is in the St Francis Hostel at Gwelup. She was very reluctant to move but has settled very well. The staff are very respectful, caring and competent. They regard the residents as family. Mum says if she can't be at home she is in the next best place. We are so fortunate that Mum is here and we agree the place is the very bed it can be.

St.Francis Hostel in Gwelup is more of a home than an aged care facility. The quality of service and care surpasses all of my expectations.

St Anthony House is the secure dementia wing of the hostel comprising 11 single ensuite rooms each of which open on to a main passageway that leads to the common areas.

The House is surrounded by neatly manicured gardens and a walkway leads all the way round the House.

For fire safety all rooms are fitted with a sprinkler system and smoke alarms monitored by Fire Indicator Panel connected to the fire service. All rooms have a telephone socket TV aerial point and built in robes. A modern hospital bed and bedside locker is provided unless the resident chooses to provide their own. Built in robes allow for generous storage space for clothes. Temperature is regulated by a reverse cycle air-conditioner.

Motion sensors installed in the bedroom allow for monitoring of movement during the night so that staff can attend and provide assistance if required. The ensuite is 5 m2 in size light and airy with a heater on the wall for the cooler months.

Common Areas Description

The house has a communal lounge area with comfortable chairs in which residents can sit and watch DVDs and listen to music.

There is a kitchen and dining area in which breakfast is prepared and served to residents. A communal dining room is provided within the main administration block for the midday and evening meal and all main meals are cooked on site in the well-appointed kitchen which adds to the homelike atmosphere of the facility.

A communal lounge is available with a large wide screen TV piano and sound system. This amenity is used for the many concerts and entertainment that is provided for residents.

A patio that leads off the dining area provides sun and weather protection in a pleasant outdoor setting.

Room Description

St Francis Hostel was built in 1996. The rooms are well maintained with a robust deferred maintenance program in place to ensure that they are kept fresh and neat with good quality carpet and fittings.

St Brigid St Clare and St Dominic Houses are each separate wings of the hostel comprising 10 single ensuite rooms each of which open on to a main passageway that leads to the common areas of a shared dining room and lounge. Each room has a rear sliding glass door and security door that opens out on to a small brick paved outdoor area bounded by the spacious gardens.
