Review Uniting Wesley Heights Manly

Staff are wonderful but over worked. Could use more carers particularly at bed time. Food is good but not very interesting. As all rooms are shared, need more break out areas to get away from other residents occasionally. The staff organise some form of entertainment almost every day and always make time to laugh and chat with residents. Can't speak highly enough of all staff.

Generally, the staff are caring and give kind attention to the high-care residents, many of whom have dementia. Management is adequate, the pastor is excellent. Meals are high quality. There could be more in-house, artistic and other visitors including local school children. Overall, I recommend the facility for quality, high care support.

Although they were kind and competent, there were not at all enough nurses or care staff for the number of residents. There was not enough physical therapy to help residents maintain mobility and have things to do. Not enough walking frames to go around. No real socialising between residents. Four people had to share one room and they were all at different stages, with one person crying out all night every night that she was in agony and just wanted to die. We were told my Mother would have a bed near a window, but upon moving in it was the bed furthest from the window. So no view to the outside. I was not informed in enough time that my mother's heart medication would run out and that I had to somehow organise it, as their pharmacy could not dispense her pills due to some red-tape reason. No one followed up with us at the end of our 2 week stay. A depressing, lonely, and boring place to be stuck; clearly due to financial neglect and a lack of empathy for the aged from the powers that be above. Much needs to be done.
