Facility: The Connault

Buildings and gardens are art deco and the place is certainly classy. The garden and outside areas are quiet and free of traffic noise. The garden attracts a lot of birds and some residents enjoy pottering in the garden. The activities are quite broad and inclusive to all. younger residents still have their vehicles parked within the grounds. The staff were always kind and thoughtful to my Mother and she enjoyed the interaction with them. Food was varied and my mother never complained about the quality. sometimes when i was there at meal time I was invited. To me all the residents appeared happy and those that were not mobile were well looked after. The Connault is certainly not the cheapest place but when you are seeking the best care for your parents then you need not look further. my mother was there for several years and always considered it her home. She lived there until her final days as a 96 year old.

Facility: The Connault

My 90 year old mother was a respite resident at the Connault during a time when she was having palliative treatment for terminal cancer. One night she was in terrible pain and rang for aid (This is how the Connault advertise themselves -"An emergency 24 hour call system adds to your security. Our fully trained staff members provide the highest level of personal care and are always on hand to assist you with your individual needs") She was asked what she expected they could do about it and not to bother them again. The next night she was again in shocking pain and eventually summoned the courage to ''bother them". They called an -didn't bother calling me, her next of kin- and sent her alone ambulance and sent her to Box Hill Hospital casualty where she was admitted with pnemonia. She died that day. The Connaught staff made her feel like she was a nuisance and bothering them unduly on her last days when she was extremely ill.
