The staff are very good and caring. There is really nothing for our family member to do in the way of entertainment. Very boring, the residents seem to just sit in a sunroom all day waiting to be fed and then put to bed. Food is average. I must say, that at least their food is served in and on china and not plastic. Hate the taste that plastic gives to food. The home is very clean and there is no urine smell - so in all the staff and the home are doing their best. I just hope that I do not end up in a home based on some of the horror stories I have heard and seen. What I find really sad is that the residents are old - yet in their lifetime (most) they have contributed to society, had children and brought them up, contributed to the economy, fought wars, created new ideas, laughed, cried, had friends - they are the past and they were also the future in that the standards of today were often driven by the elderly now in nursing homes. I am so angry and sad, that many of the carers (and I am not saying all) are from o/seas - they cannot speak english well, they do not care about our culture and so on) feel as though they have the right to mistreat our elderly residents. Yes, there are Australians who do the same. I believe it is because they are stressed due to the low number of staff employed and the amount of work they have to complete in a shift. I will give you an example: recently a friend of mine took up employment at an aged care facility out north of Adelaide. She was expected to care for 30 patients on her own at one time. She asked the other nurse how am I supposed to get all this done in one shift? She was told "just sign it off that you have done it". My friend chose to resign. and good on her for making that decision. I am sure that cutting corners happens in so many of these places - it worries me!!

Staff have always been very accommodating and caring. They have notified us each time there has been an issue. The staff go out of their way to make sure our family member is being looked after. They are very observant of any changes.

My mother has not only been supported physically but emotionally. She made her decision to enter care and has told me repeatedly how happy she is feeling and I appreciate the collaborative manner staff communicate with me.

Angry everyday I visited, there was always something that had not been done for my brother. I understand that staffing is resource poor due to budgeting, but our aged deserve better care and respect.

In my experience having my Mother in a home for ten years, I am disgusted with some of the staff. The good staff quite often move on, speaking to them, they said they just cannot treat the residence like some staff do. Even now, here are a few good staff. However, my Mothers last few years were hell for her, having delusions and being difficult, she was treated second class. I walked in SO many times hearing how staff were speaking to her. I followed the complaints process, the situation changed for a few weeks, but soon staff went back to the way they were. I believe there should be 'outside' neutral staff, sent to every nursing home to see just what goes on. Not once, but yearly. I even bought a cam for mums room, but I got so upset when speaking to the manager, was told it was against the law to use one, so I didn't.

I believe staff need to be interviewed differently. There also needs to have ad hoc audits by sending someone in to monitor staff behaviour. My Mother's experience was less than professional even after complaints process. I was downright disgusted by some, not all staff behaviour.
