Mercy Care in Abbotsford Vic has a quality of care that restores faith in the system of aged care. Staff are always present and engaged with residents. Food is cooked on site and visitors welcome to join for meals. Always clean and doesn’t smell like nursing home. Activities galore. There is An art room, two pianos - which residents often play. Gardens attended by residents. I can’t praise it enough. My 91 y.o friend lives there and is very happy. It was the old Good Shepherd care facility for the nuns in the adjoining convent. Needless to say the views from most windows look out to the convent and gardens. It’s a happy safe clean place for residents.

When I first placed my parent in the facility, I was advised so many changes and renovations were going ahead, and to date not much has occurred. I know these things take time but my understanding was the plans had been put in place quite some time before my parent became a resident. I have witnessed the stimulation and overall wellbeing of many of the residence ( in partiucular those who are non verbal and unable to walk, to be minimal and in my mind totally unacceptable. There are many days when they are just left sitting around in silence and with no nursing contact, rather than at least being placed in front of the television with a movie or concert to watch. Many residence don't have an Family to visit and rely on staff to provide that extra attention. I have also witnessed staff ratio's of an unacceptable level, where residence were told to wait when they requested certain attention (such as toileting) The cleanliness of the rooms need addressing also. I have brought this to the attention of the facility but again to date have noticed no change. I also contacted the Accreditation people in June when I was invited to give feedback, to my disappointment all they did was refer me to the relevent Managers of the facility. Very disappointing. I believe the staff ratios are not adequate and also the amount of staff, although most have good English skills, the EN's and assistants I have found it difficult to converse with at times and my constant requests for certain things have been ignored. I hope to see changes within the facility very soon.

My mother has been a resident for 12 months. When she first entered St Anne's the staff and quality of food was good. Now the meals that are served are aweful. The staff were told that the plates are not to be sent back to the kitchen full as no one can eat what is being served they have to get rid of it on the floor. The staff on the floors sit on their ipads or phones instead of carrying out their duties. Would not recommend.
